Identify the cause of inflammation
Transverse myelitis involves inflammation of the spinal cord and can occur in different clinical settings. Its cause and relationship to other neurological disease influence treatment and prognosis. A cell-treatment proposal should not bypass a neurological assessment of the diagnosis, current inflammatory activity and any ongoing risk of recurrence.
Research into repair is not a guarantee
Scientists study cells that help produce myelin and ways to support repair after nervous-system damage. This research is biologically important, but does not establish that a commercially offered cell infusion restores function after transverse myelitis. Ask whether the evidence concerns humans with the same diagnosis rather than another type of spinal injury.
Clarify your recovery goals
Movement, sensation, pain, bladder function and independence may recover differently. Ask which outcomes the proposed treatment claims to improve and how they will be measured. Rehabilitation and symptom care should continue while experimental options are considered; an intervention should not replace a comprehensive plan for daily function.
Prepare a neurological record
Bring MRI images, spinal fluid and blood results, the illness timeline and treatment history. Ask a neurologist to review research eligibility and the implications of travel. Confirm how any new weakness or bladder symptoms would be assessed and how the overseas team will communicate with the clinician managing your underlying condition.
