PATIENT EVIDENCE & CONSULTATION GUIDE

Category: Safety · Editorial Review: Updated 20 October 2026 · 3 minute read

Clinical clarity

You should be able to name the diagnosis, the proposed intervention, and the specific goal. Ask what evidence supports that combination and what alternatives remain available. If the same explanation is offered for many unrelated conditions, request a more specific account of why the plan fits yours.

Operational clarity

Know the responsible doctor, collection and administration sites, processing arrangements, aftercare contact, and emergency pathway. Confirm who can change the plan and who provides written instructions in a language you understand. A concierge can coordinate appointments but does not replace clinical accountability.

Financial clarity

Request an itemized quote, cancellation terms, follow-up charges, and responsibility for complications. Consider travel changes and care after returning home as part of the commitment. If one of these areas remains unresolved, pause long enough to obtain a clear answer rather than allowing the deposit deadline to decide for you.

Putting the discussion into practice

Before payment, write a one-page decision note: what you hope to improve, why this intervention is proposed, what remains uncertain, and what you would do if it does not help. Review it with the clinician. If you cannot complete a section because the explanation is unclear, that identifies the next question to resolve. This is a practical tool for informed choice, not a demand for certainty.

Questions to take to the consultation

Ask yourself: Can I explain the proposal without repeating a slogan? Do I know who is responsible for complications? Have I seen the full costs and cancellation terms? Do I have time to seek an independent view? If the answer to an essential question is no, use that as the agenda for the next conversation. A good decision process allows unresolved details to be clarified before financial commitment creates pressure to proceed. Include a trusted person in reviewing the decision note if you wish, especially when language or stress makes the consultation difficult. Their role can be to help you remember questions and compare answers while the final decision remains yours.
